What is Depression? How to overcome depression?
Depression or “depressive reactions” is a mood response that is often brought on by the stresses and strains in our lives. Depression is a state when an individual feels dejected from the outside world.
Studies reveal that five women and one in ten men can expect to experience some form of depression in their lives. Depression can influence every aspect of your life. Although the cause of depression is unknown, depression can leave one feeling sad, irritable, indecisive, pessimistic, hopeless or empty unable to concentrate. Sufferers can also experience insomnia, fatigue, memory loss, restlessness, anxiety and even rapid weight gain or loss.
Get Busy.
You’ll overcome any feeling of depression if you were too busy to notice it. Do the things you love. Take a leisure walk in the park or gardens, play your favorite sports, read books, develop a hobby which increases your creativity or engage in an activity that you have passion for. Have confidence that you are capable of doing anything you want so that you can develop positive attitude.
Take a Break.
Listen to soothing music. Have a nice caring bath. So take a break from your stressful workload and spend the day just goofing around. This can be an effective idea to overcome the depression rather than staying on the room alone. Watch your favorite movies, cartoons, comedy shows, nature, funny movies that make you cheerful .In other words, have fun.
Get Enough Light and Sunshine.
If your room is dark it lowers the body temperature and makes you feel dull. So, it would be hard to restrain yourself from staying in bed. This is the reason why many people suffer from depression much more in winter than in other seasons. Always see that your room gets enough sunshine or lighten up your room with brighter lights.
Eat Right and Stay Healthy.
Sugar and caffeine will add more anxiety, tension, and internal problems. So, avoid foods with lots of sugar, sedatives, caffeine, or even alcohol. Make sure you exercise daily which sends more oxygen to your brain cells to keep yourself fit and healthy. The result of exercise will improve your health as well as your attitude.
Get a Social Life.
It is always good if there are people that will support the person in depression. Your friends, family are there to give you moral support. Spending more time and engaging in worthwhile activities with friends, family gives you happiness. Establish close ties with your family and friends.
Do not read newspapers.
Most of the newspapers publish crime news & stories, which has more impact on depression. The stories are focused on War, rebellion, death; destruction, doom and despair abound in the newspapers. Watching and listening such kind of news will add to depression.so, stop reading the newspaper and reduce the negative input to your brain. Write down your feelings in book or a diary. Make it a regular habit. This way you can know your feelings and come out of the depression.
Relax!
Meditation and other relaxation techniques work to calm the mind and help to reduce stress, muscle tension and anxiety. It also helps emotional health and balance.
Breathe deeply and relax. Practice breathing exercises to relax your body and mind even when are outside the house.
